Chapter 1: Embracing Change After a Break
Returning from a vacation often prompts a period of introspection. For many, including myself, it's a chance to reassess what we want to keep and what we might want to change. A brief hiatus from the everyday grind can lead to valuable insights.
In my case, we're also undergoing a transformation in our living space, particularly my home office. Fresh paint, new light fixtures, and updated furniture give the area a sense of a "fresh start."
Moreover, I've recently taken on a part-time position in addition to my roles as a copywriter and online entrepreneur. Although it only requires five hours a week, adjusting to this new schedule has its challenges. Reflecting on how to establish a new routine is essential.
How do you find your footing after a vacation? Here are some of my strategies.
Section 1.1: Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You
Over time, I've accumulated a sizable collection of websites. While some are still enjoyable, others feel burdensome, particularly those that are costly to maintain without generating sufficient income. I've been actively working to streamline my portfolio, selling off what I can and discontinuing hosting for sites that no longer serve me. This simplification allows me to create space for new endeavors.
Subsection 1.1.1: Reigniting Your Blogging Passion
I usually have several blog posts ready to go, but currently, I need a reset. Aiming for a weekly post might be a stretch given my post-vacation rhythm. However, I genuinely enjoy blogging and want to continue. This article marks my first piece after returning from my break.
In addition to this, I contribute to my Portuguese site, which is vital for income, suggesting I might need to refocus my efforts there.
Section 1.2: Transitioning from Freelance Work
Yes, you read that correctly. I've been contemplating this shift for some time, but my recent vacation solidified my desire to move away from relying solely on freelance work. While I have other income-generating projects, I may still take on occasional freelance gigs, particularly those that spark joy.
After nearly a decade of freelancing, I've realized it often involves trading time for money. I prefer to channel my energy into new business ventures, my fitness journey, or my platform in Italy, among others.

One reason I accepted a small part-time job is to mitigate a tiny risk. It provides a modest, consistent income, contributes to my retirement fund, and offers some insurance against unemployment and health issues.
While these aren't my primary motivations for accepting the role, they do play a part in my decision-making process.
Additionally, diversifying personal finances through saving and investing, as well as exploring new business ideas that require minimal time investment, are crucial steps for anyone aiming to avoid burnout.
Chapter 3: Prioritizing Enjoyment and Creativity
Vacations often spark the desire to engage in more enjoyable activities, yet it's easy to slip back into old habits soon after returning. I'm determined to change that. I'm planning to write more short stories and perhaps embark on a full-length book project once again.
I'm also open to exploring new opportunities, whether that involves taking on additional hours or trying something entirely different. I've had enriching discussions with fellow entrepreneurs, but nothing is set in stone just yet. I want to break free from the routine and seek new paths.
Now, I’m curious about your own transitions post-vacation. What changes are you considering? Did you make any plans while away, or are you opting for continuity? Share your thoughts in the comments!
