# Letting Go: Embracing Change in Freelance Writing

Chapter 1: The Dual Nature of Attachment
As humans, we possess a characteristic that can enhance our relationships but can also lead to negative consequences when not managed properly. This characteristic is attachment. Many people advise against becoming overly attached in relationships, which holds some merit; however, I believe it is essential in certain contexts.
In a relationship, a certain level of attachment is necessary for it to thrive. A lack of this attachment can create issues that undermine trust, commitment, and loyalty. Conversely, excessive attachment can feel suffocating, resulting in an unhealthy dependency that stifles individual growth. This heightened level of attachment can cloud our judgment, making it difficult to recognize the truth of our situations. I experienced this firsthand.
Section 1.1: My Journey into Freelancing
During the pandemic, when lockdowns were enforced globally, I found myself staying home for weeks. This situation made me anxious, as I was unaccustomed to being unproductive beyond taking a few online courses and binge-watching shows. I realized I had a passion for writing, supported by the positive feedback I'd received on my work.
Determined to utilize my writing skills, I ventured into freelance writing. I registered on Freelancer.com and began seeking clients immediately. Fast forward two years, and I secured numerous projects with clients worldwide, from producers to academics. My love for freelance writing grew to the point where I could spend all day engaged in contests and bidding for projects.
Section 1.2: The Impact of AI on Freelancing
The first two years of my freelance career were rewarding, but everything shifted dramatically in the third year with the introduction of generative AI, such as ChatGPT. I watched as the demand for freelance writers plummeted on various platforms, as many turned to AI for their writing needs.
Writers across the board were alarmed, fearing that AI would replace them. I shared this apprehension, but I held on to the hope that there were still clients seeking human writers. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Since the advent of this technology, I struggled to find any writing gigs, despite my extensive search efforts and solid portfolio.

Section 1.3: Accepting Change and Moving Forward
I found myself clinging to my established presence on the platform, my nearly flawless portfolio, and my Preferred Freelancer badge. I struggled to accept that AI had fundamentally altered the freelance writing landscape. Eventually, I realized I needed to take a step back and reassess my approach to writing.
Once I embraced the reality of the situation, I discovered new and better avenues for monetizing my writing. Letting go of my attachment to the past allowed me to explore opportunities I had previously overlooked. Sometimes, the only thing standing between you and greater opportunities is an unwillingness to release what you currently have.

Chapter 2: The Power of Release
Reflecting on this experience, I learned a valuable lesson: letting go can open doors to new possibilities. If I had remained attached to my previous methods, I wouldn't have discovered the beauty of new opportunities that awaited me.
