A Journey from Aversion to Advocacy through Writing

Chapter 1: Embracing the Writing Journey
Every writer has their motivations for engaging in this craft. Not too long ago, I found myself strongly resistant to writing; it simply didn't resonate with me. However, about three years ago, I uncovered a newfound passion for advocacy. The challenge was that, as an introvert, I felt ill-equipped to express this passion. Public speaking was not an option, which left me with one alternative: writing. This passion for advocacy has set me on a path toward becoming a writer.
One of the primary obstacles I faced was grappling with self-doubt and the fear of failure. Who was I to think I could aspire to be a writer one day? Just when I was about to give up, I stumbled across Medium. Reading various articles from seasoned writers, as well as those who were just starting out, inspired me to write on Medium too.
As I write daily, I continually learn more about both my craft and myself. The more I read and write, the more I find myself questioning my thoughts and ideas. Now in my second year of college, I achieved an almost perfect score on my final paper for my English Composition II class—a feat I never accomplished during my K-12 education, where I rarely earned more than a C on any written assignment.
At present, I am navigating the exciting phase of discovering my writing voice. I'm experimenting with various topics and writing styles to determine what resonates most with me. Having access to statistics for each piece has been invaluable in pinpointing my strengths and areas for improvement. However, the greatest support has come from fellow writers on Medium, for which I am immensely grateful. Their feedback, encouragement, and camaraderie have greatly aided my development.
Thank you for taking the time to read this reflection. I hope you found it enjoyable, and I would love to hear your thoughts or comments. If you appreciated it, please show your support!
