Finding Happiness: The Journey Beyond the Perfect Choice
Written on
Chapter 1: Understanding Personal Choice
In moments of uncertainty, many individuals rely heavily on the insights of friends and family when making decisions, often out of a fear of error. This apprehension leads them to seek guidance from those they perceive as more knowledgeable or experienced.
While valuing the opinions of loved ones is essential, the ultimate responsibility for our choices—and their repercussions—rests solely with us.

Section 1.1: The Dangers of Living for Others
Living according to the expectations and desires of others can lead to a lack of authenticity. When we base our lives on others' views, we risk becoming mere puppets, lacking the ability to make our own judgments. Even when we achieve success by following someone else's path, the rewards often feel hollow, devoid of genuine conviction. Conversely, if we fail while adhering to external advice, we not only face disappointment but also bear the added weight of guilt for letting ourselves be swayed.

Ultimately, no one can truly experience life in our stead. Each person possesses unique insights into their own wounds and joys. We are acutely aware of what we miss, what has healed, and what remains unresolved.
Section 1.2: Defining Our Own Standards
Arguments about which relationship models are superior or what lifestyle choices guarantee happiness often fall flat. Each individual has their own framework for well-being, pleasure, and joy. What one person finds romantic, another may deem cliché. Similarly, what excites one individual may overwhelm another.
It is futile to pursue relationships based solely on external approval if they don't resonate with us on a deeper level. The approval of friends and family can’t replace our inner happiness, and projecting an image of confidence while feeling internally conflicted is not sustainable.
Chapter 2: The Power of Autonomy
In the first video, "Podcast Ep #7: The Myth of God's Perfect Choice," we delve into how personal decisions shape our understanding of happiness, challenging the notion of a singular 'perfect' choice.
The second video, "Choice Architecture, Player Expression, and Narrative Design in Fallout: New Vegas," explores how the structures of choices in gaming reflect our real-life decision-making processes.
Things evolve or come to an end based on our internal feelings. We cannot delegate the burden of decision-making to our loved ones. Embracing our ability to think independently and accept the outcomes of our choices is what truly empowers us as individuals.
