# Embracing Realistic Expectations: My Journey to Happiness
Written on
Chapter 1: A Shift in Perspective
Recently, I've come to realize that my life expectations have shifted significantly over the years, and this change has brought me a newfound happiness. Perhaps it’s a part of growing older or simply a matter of accepting reality. Regardless of the reasons, I cherish this fresh perspective on life.
Career Aspirations
As a writer, my passion remains unwavering. In the past, my ambitions were lofty:
- Win a Nobel Prize in Literature, like Toni Morrison
- Achieve a Pulitzer Prize for Literature
- Obtain a Guggenheim Fellowship for Literature
- Get a short story published in The New Yorker
- Write a book that becomes a standard reading in schools nationwide
- Have a film adaptation of one of my works
- Sell millions of books and become a multi-millionaire
- Secure a seven-figure book deal with a renowned publisher
Please, hold back your laughter...
Adjusted Career Goals
Now, my expectations have evolved:
- Self-publish one or two books a year on Amazon, including short stories. Thanks to Amazon for making self-publishing both accessible and profitable.
- Aim for an annual income in the six-figure range from my writing.
- If that doesn’t work out, I'm open to pursuing a new career path, even if it requires additional education. It’s never too late to change directions!
Nonetheless, I believe my writing will eventually support me financially.
Finances and Aspirations
In the past, I crafted a vision board filled with grand dreams:
- Own a multi-million dollar home and a vacation getaway
- Travel spontaneously to exotic locations
- Design my dream house with two kitchens, a home theater, and an infinity pool
- Drive an Aston Martin, just because it seemed appealing
- Become a multi-millionaire
I was influenced by countless motivational speakers and seminars, all emphasizing that hard work and belief could lead to achieving these desires. But how many truly grasped this idea?
Adjusted Financial Goals
I still aspire to be financially successful, yet my focus has shifted to becoming a millionaire through financial literacy, not necessarily a multi-millionaire. I yearn to travel to far-off places, but now I plan to save beforehand. I desire a lovely home, but it doesn’t need to come with a million-dollar price tag. And when I retire, I hope to own a Porsche.
Love and Relationships
When it came to love, I dreamt of finding my soulmate, someone who would sweep me off my feet and share a beautiful life with me. I must admit, I had a vague idea of what that would entail, shaped by movies and poetry. I envisioned a partner who would:
- Love me unconditionally
- Complete me in every way
- Make me feel beautiful
- Share my thoughts and beliefs
- Provide a sense of security
- Allow my "real life" to truly begin
Adjusted Expectations in Love
Now, I recognize that I am a complete individual, with or without a partner. My goal is to find someone who shares my values and understands me. While love is essential, I’ve learned that there is no such thing as a perfect romance.
Hi Dear Readers,
If you enjoy my writing and would like to buy me a cup of coffee to fuel my creativity, feel free to do so. Your support helps me produce more quality articles, books, and short stories on Amazon.
Thank you in advance!
Sincerely,
Rosalyn
