Discovering "God's Hand": A Journey to Growth and Enlightenment

Written on

Chapter 1: The Awakening of Awareness

One fateful day, as I clung to the railing, I felt as if my skull might implode. Despite the torment, I managed to flash a pained smile at the receptionist while pulling out my jump rope. The rhythmic motion turned out to be unexpectedly soothing, transporting me into a deep meditative state, akin to Yoma from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

But then my coach's call to gather shattered my concentration and sent my heart plummeting. However, his next words ignited a smile on my face: "Today, we’re starting with Agility Ladder drills!" Could it be mere luck that he chose these uplifting exercises after a two-week absence? Was it just a coincidence that my headache vanished right as the drills wrapped up?

My past self, rooted in skepticism, might have nodded in agreement, but I had learned to recognize a deeper truth: this was "God's Hand" at work, subtly guiding me.

Section 1.1: Defining the Divine

To understand this phenomenon, we must define what we mean by 'God'. The term traces back to Proto-Germanic Gudan, which is derived from the Proto-Indo-European Gheu, signifying "to invoke." Whether we refer to it as conscience, inner voice, cosmic energy, or simply "God," we are all tapping into the same essence.

People from diverse faiths—Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, or Pagan—draw from the same well, represented through various figures like Brahma, Buddha, Jesus, and Allah. God exists within, around, and beyond us simultaneously. As Morihei Ueshiba wisely noted, "The divine is not something high above us. It is in heaven, it is on earth, it is inside us."

Section 1.2: The Fallacy of Coincidence

The concept of "coincidence" undermines a fundamental universal principle: causality. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If the Big Bang was the initial cause, it led to subsequent effects that birthed new causes, continuing indefinitely.

Causality operates not only on a grand scale but also within our individual lives. Our thoughts shape intentions, which crystallize into actions and ultimately define our habits, relationships, and work.

The Butterfly Effect illustrates this beautifully: small, seemingly insignificant events can lead to monumental changes. Neil Gaiman stated, "A butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazonian jungle, and subsequently a storm ravages half of Europe."

This intricate web of micro-causality is often invisible, yet it is undeniably impactful. When we dismiss events as mere "luck" or "chance," we overlook the unseen forces at play.

Chapter 2: Embracing the Signs

Yet, the truth remains: many won't believe until they experience it firsthand. I certainly didn’t—until a series of improbable events unfolded. A plan for bouldering ended up being a serendipitous encounter, leading to a relationship that thrives against all odds.

Over two years, I contributed to IFAIH and built a rapport with its owner. When the platform went inactive, I cold-emailed him and offered my help, leading to an unexpected opportunity to take the reins.

It was a moment of personal transformation when I reignited my Vipassana journey, emerging forever changed. These moments of realization have made it clear to me: nothing in the universe is merely coincidental. As Albert Einstein aptly put it, "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous."

Section 2.1: Recognizing Omens

We may consciously possess five senses, but our subconscious taps into a "sixth sense," developed through centuries of evolution. We may not perceive magnetic fields or disasters like animals do, but we have an innate ability to sense when something is off or when a moment feels significant.

Denise Linn beautifully expressed this: "In every moment, the universe is whispering to you. You're constantly surrounded by signs, coincidences, and synchronicities, all aimed at propelling you in the direction of your destiny."

However, our rational minds often dismiss these signs as mere coincidences. Yet, by embracing our innate curiosity and reclaiming a childlike wonder, we can learn to recognize and appreciate these divine nudges.

Section 2.2: Cultivating Awareness

To cultivate this awareness, consider the following practices:

  • Reconnect with childlike curiosity: As we grow older, skepticism often clouds our perception. Reembracing that open-mindedness can enhance our ability to perceive the extraordinary in the ordinary.
  • Embrace the mystical: Approach life with genuine curiosity rather than skepticism. Allow yourself to explore spiritual practices and rituals with an open heart.
Exploring the Mystical and the Divine
  • Seek out the sublime: Whether it's stargazing or wandering through a tranquil forest, these experiences can sharpen our perception of "God's Hand."
  • Reflect on past events: Revisit moments you once deemed coincidences. What patterns or signs can you now recognize?

The journey to recognizing omens is unique to each individual, and they often serve as personal guides toward self-discovery and growth. As Paulo Coelho noted in The Alchemist, "In order to find the treasure, you will have to follow the omens."

When you feel an omen guiding you, act swiftly—before doubt creeps in. My decision to end a long-standing meat-eating habit and leave my 9 to 5 job stemmed from profound insights I received.

In conclusion, history is filled with individuals who heeded their inner voices and the signs around them.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. once shared, "I could hear an inner voice saying, 'Stand up for righteousness. Stand up for justice. Stand up for truth.'"
  • Winston Churchill remarked, "I felt as if I were walking with destiny, and that all my past life had been but a preparation for this hour."

When "God's Hand" reaches out to you, take hold of it and allow it to elevate you toward greatness. Godspeed!
