Chapter 1: The Quest for Enhanced Productivity
In my ongoing exploration of productivity, I'm always searching for that elusive secret that can lead to exceptional output. Ideally, I aim for a level of achievement that resembles this:
and not this:
I've come to realize that while I can achieve significant productivity bursts in the short run, maintaining a steady pace over time is quite challenging. My ability to get things done fluctuates unpredictably, much like a tumultuous sea.
Just like unpredictable ocean waves, I never know in advance which days will be productive and which days will feel like I'm floundering without making progress. However, I can count on experiencing both kinds of days.
Currently, I'm contemplating the creation of a toolkit featuring a variety of resources—not because I believe any single one will be the ultimate solution, but because I've noticed that each new tool I try tends to yield results for about two weeks.
By having a range of options, I could rotate through them frequently, keeping my routines refreshing and engaging. This might help me avoid the phase where I become desensitized to the benefits of a particular system, often before realizing I need to switch gears.
Presently, I'm utilizing Habitica, an app designed to gamify productivity. The premise is simple: I earn rewards for completing tasks on my to-do list, but I also face penalties if I don't follow through.
It's worth noting that this isn't my first encounter with Habitica—it's likely my fifth. Nonetheless, it aids me in keeping track of minor responsibilities. For example, I struggle to log my tutoring hours immediately after our sessions, even though it takes less than a minute. At my worst, I've recorded an entire month's worth of hours on the last day or completely forgotten until the next month began. Habitica imposes a daily penalty, pushing me to update my tasks consistently.
At this moment, Habitica is proving effective. Just like my bullet journal did last month and the planner pages I designed the month before that. I plan to give Habitica another ten days before I assess its continued impact on my productivity.
After that, I will need to seek out a new system to maintain my task management. I wonder what that will be?
