Building a Daily Self-Love Habit: Day 28 of the Challenge

Chapter 1: Embracing the Final Day of the Self Love Challenge

Welcome to the final day of Dr. Tracy Davis's Self Love Challenge! While I'm a bit sad to see it come to a close, this journey has been incredibly rewarding. You can check out her original post or revisit my previous entries, along with insights from Casey Stanley.

For Day 28, the focus is on continuing to weave self-love into my everyday life. It might sound a bit absurd, but I find it essential to schedule time for self-care. Without this intentionality, I often get sidetracked by less important tasks, like mindlessly scrolling through my phone.

I carve out moments to relax and release my anxieties. Engaging in conversations with the universe, reflecting on my thoughts, and outlining my objectives for the upcoming days, weeks, and months are vital practices for me. On challenging days, it can be tough to push myself to complete even the simplest tasks, but I recognize that self-care is particularly crucial during these times.

Some mornings, I feel accomplished before the day truly begins, yet there are days when that isn’t an option. In those instances, I turn to activities that I know will uplift my spirits.

For instance, I start my day with a cup of tea, which motivates me to rise from bed. Then, I take a refreshing shower—feeling clean significantly enhances my mood. Following that, I ensure I nourish my body with a healthy meal and take my vitamins, as looking after my health offers a small boost of well-being.

During winter, maintaining self-care can be a challenge since outdoor walks are often limited. Therefore, I find alternative ways to practice self-love. I choose manageable tasks to tidy up my space, conserving my energy for what truly matters. For example, today, I tackled the dishes and repaired my dishwasher, which was a delightful mood enhancer since it eliminated the need for hand-washing.

Winter can feel particularly heavy and gloomy, so I focus on small victories. Every step toward self-care counts, especially when my mental state feels more daunting than usual. Sometimes, self-care means pushing through when my mind is resistant, reminding myself that I've already completed the most challenging part by scheduling this time for myself. It’s fascinating how our minds can obscure the need for self-care when we’re deeply entrenched in our struggles.

Another method of integrating self-care into my daily routine is by recognizing my triggers. If I anticipate a challenging week ahead, I proactively seek ways to ease my burden. This might involve preparing simple meals, spending quality time with friends, ensuring I go to bed early, or unwinding with zentangling, coloring, or watching a few episodes of a beloved show.
