AI: A Tool for Growth, Not a Threat to Our Existence

Chapter 1: Embracing AI as a Positive Force
In contemplating the evolution of artificial intelligence, it is vital to maintain an optimistic perspective. Historically, humanity has progressed through the utilization of practical sciences and the invention of useful instruments. AI represents the next phase of this advancement.
As finite beings, we must recognize the significance of our limited time. Philosophically, it is preferable to reduce the hours spent fulfilling basic needs, allowing us to dedicate more time to our cognitive and emotional growth.
In the early 1900s, earning a living was often a strenuous and painful ordeal. Yet, by the late 20th century and the dawn of the 21st century, we witnessed a rapid transformation that led to improved living conditions and expanded access to information, both of which are vital for continued advancement. The pace of technological evolution across generations is accelerating dramatically.
Why is this happening? Because education is becoming increasingly accessible, and the practical applications of that knowledge are vast.
I will always remember the moment I introduced my father to the Internet. Born in the 1950s on a small island, he looked at me in amazement, smiling and shaking his head, saying:
“Back in my day, finding a book was an adventure; I had to travel from our village to the nearest town, take a bus, and visit the only library in the capital. Now, you have the entire world’s knowledge at your fingertips.”
Is AI a threat? Absolutely not. It is essential to understand that AI is not an adversary but rather a tool and companion in our everyday lives. Its true potential lies in its ability to liberate us from monotonous tasks, providing us with more free time to concentrate on what truly matters—our personal development, relationships, and contributions to society.
Consider the transformative impact of technological innovations. When we first encountered the Internet, smartphones, electric cars, and social media, skepticism was common. This response is natural; significant changes can often feel intimidating. However, as we learned to integrate these tools into our lives, we developed trust and security, leading to a more streamlined existence.
The world has earned its rightful pride.
So, what lies ahead?
“Well, we don’t know.”
One certainty remains: if we manage to avoid self-destruction, future generations will likely enjoy even better conditions than we do today. It saddens me to reflect on how people lived a century ago, enduring hardship and suffering while striving to provide for their families.
I am profoundly grateful to those who paved the way for us, establishing the circumstances we benefit from today. I cherish having been born in this era, equipped with these tools, and having the opportunity to care for my parents as they once cared for me. When I become a parent, I aspire to be present and witness my children’s growth.
This is a remarkable time of advancement, and we should all appreciate being part of it.
